First Day Of Playoffs

Wednesday was the first day of the 2011-2012 playoffs and it was an interesting one. The first game was the Philadelphia Flyers vs the Pittsburgh Penguins and it was exciting. Pittsburgh got up 3-0 and all hope was lost in game 1 for the flyers but they didn't give up. Danny Briere scored 2 goals in the game and they scored again to tie it up. Going into overtime the flyers seemed to dominate and put one in off a tip in.

Now the next game was the Detroit, Nashville game which was a bit of a surprise. Pekka Rinne stood on his head and out did his opposing goaltender Jimmy Howard in this game.

The last game was the Los Angeles Kings vs Vancouver Canucks which I only got to watch 2 periods of. Vancouver wasn't doing as good as I thought they would against the Kings. Jonathon Quick stood on his head only giving up 2 goals and Drew Doughty and the rest of the Kings held on to win 4-2.

Todays games are as follows,
New York Rangers vs Ottawa Senators 7:00 est
Boston Bruins vs Washington Capitals 7:30 est
San Jose Sharks vs St Louis Blues 7:30 est
Chicago Blackhawks vs Phoenix Coyotes 10:00 est

Most Anticipated Game Today

There are many games being played today to finish off the regular season.

Chicago plays Detroit. For that game Detroit can pass Nashville for the fourth sport while the Blackhawks cannot move spots.

Ottawa plays the Devils both are not playing for a better spot but Ottawa can get caught if they lose.

Buffalo plays Boston which frankly no one cares. Buffalo got knocked out and Boston cannot move spots.

Pittsburgh plays Philadelphia which seems to be the most anticipated game but doesn't mean anything for either teams.

Anaheim plays Calgary which doesn't matter because both teams are out.

The Capitals play the Rangers for what could be a huge playoff changer for them. If they win and Florida loses they move up to 3rd place otherwise they have to play the Rangers in the first round of the playoffs.

Toronto plays Montreal which both are out.

Columbus plays the Blue Jackets and both are out.

Carolina plays Florida. This game has no meaning for Carolina since there out but for Florida it could mean they either play the Devils or the Rangers depending on if they win or not.

Phoenix plays Minnesota in which if they lose and the Kings win they drop out of 3rd place.

St. Louis plays Dallas which is a must win if they want a shot at the Presidents Trophy.

Predators play Colorado for nothing.

Edmonton plays Vancouver for what could be the game for Vancouver to win the Presidents Trophy.

The Kings play the Sharks for what could be 3rd place

1 Game Remains

Congrats to all the teams who clinched playoff berths. There is one game remaining in the regular season and the only things being played for are the Presidents Trophy and fighting for better spots.

Last Four Days in the Season

With only four days remaining in the regular season here's what you should watch out for.

- There are three eastern conference teams alive for the two spots remaining. Florida has an edge as they only need to get one point in their final two games to clinch their spot.

-There are basically five spots remaining in the western conference. The Kings, Coyotes, Sharks, Stars and Avalanche all have to secure a spot or get knocked out within the next four days. The Coyotes and Sharks have an edge as they are in the 7th and 8th spots as of now. The Stars are a mere three points behind but also have been on a three game losing streak. Colorado is four points back. All 5 teams have two games remaining.

-Three teams are in the hunt for the Presidents Trophy, the Blues, Rangers and Canucks. Frankly, being a Rangers fan and how well they have played this year I feel they well than deserve it this year. Now we just need to see how well they do in the playoffs.

How's Henrik Lundqvist doing?

So we all know Henrik Lundqvist is one of the best goalies in the world but the real question is will he be able to hold it during playoffs? Rangers used to be ahead like 10 points from the next team in the Atlantic division and that lead has been cut in half to 5. There's about 4-5 games left for some and it will be interesting to see if he can hold the lead in the east
